Black Cat Freefall
Calling all thrill seekers, we've created a unique Rocksport experience right in the heart of one of Britain’s most spectacular show caves.
Our dedicated instructors will get you kitted out before heading through Gough’s Cave and into the Black Cat Chamber; named by the cave’s discoverer, Richard Gough, after one of his son's placed a work light on the floor and a mysterious silhouette of a cat was seen on the wall!
The Black Cat Freefall is the time to muster your courage to climb the 30ft ladder and get ready to jump (but don’t worry, you’ll be attached to a safety line at all times). Watch the floor approach or the roof disappear as you take a leap of faith and enjoy an exhilarating free fall before you are held and lowered safely back to the ground.

- The Black Cat Freefall lasts approximately 90 minutes.
- Visitors can take as many jumps as time and nerves allow.
- This is a popular activity. We suggest you book at least 4 weeks in advance if you would like to visit on a specific date.
- The Black Cat Freefall is available on all open days throughout the year (subject to weather conditions).
- Age: 11 years and over. Children up to and including the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult of 18 or over. 16 and 17 year olds may participate without adult supervision. One adult may supervise up to nine children. One adult can supervise children on the same booking for free; other adults that wish to watch must have a ticket for the cave (a fee will be applicable).
- Unless you’ve booked as an Exclusive Group, then your experience will be shared with others (up to 10 people in total for each activity).
- If you are a Longleat member or annual passholder, please book your session with a 20% discount by calling guest services on 01934 742 343. Each participant in Rocksport activities must bring with them a valid membership card to show on arrival.
